About my last name
In 2011, I changed my last name from Brasile to Basile.
My family's original last name, Basile, is Sicilian. It was changed to Brasile by one of my grandfather's teachers to "Americanize" it.
He was born Basile and died Brasile. Along with my other family members, I have changed my name back to its original spelling -- Basile -- to honor our family's history and heritage.
